The Drying Pot; And The Refining Fires Necessary to Become a Vessel Used by God

"Panic hit and I mean big! Satan proceeded to tell us we should not have
left the job Rick was in and we were going to fail. He continued to tell us we would never get the money Rick was making from the job he left and we would lose everything! One thing we have to recognize is when there is fear, there is the devil. God has not given us the spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7)! If fear is present – so is the enemy!
" ( quote from "The Drying Pot; And The Refining Fires Necessary to Become a Vessel Used By God.")

Though this site is for Christian book reviews I am excited about my new book being published and I wanted to share it with you! I cannot say that I can give you a review of the book, since I am the author however, I can give you some insight into the book and how it came about.

In 2001 my husband Rick had a vision as a Wednesday night church service of the cover of this book and my name as the author. I had always knew I was going to write a book however I knew this vision was God because that had never happened to my husband before and he was so moved by the experience.

So off I went to write the book. In the book I tell of trials and tribulations our family has gone through and the victory of where God had brought us through. It is a little strange I admit to be open and honest with the world, telling some of our deepest secrets. But I knew that the refining fires we had been through would be able to help others who were going through trials as well.

God led me through the story of the potter and the clay, and this book explains how clay in the natural is transformed and how we as clay in the spirit are transformed into vessels God can use for His glory.

I am open and honest about our life and I share what the Word of God says about facing trials and tribulation and how to come out the other side victoriously. I know this book is to encourage, inspire, and help Children of God endure what they are in now and come out the other side with a story to tell.

The only thing left to tell you is to write what the back of the book says. I pray you will be blessed, moved, and inspired to persevere.

"Today more than ever it is important for Christians to understand they are called by God! You as a Child of God have a plan and purpose for your life, however there is a transformation process God uses to take you from the marred piece clay to a vessel He can use for His glory.

In her new book; The Drying Pot; And The Refining Fires Necessary to Become a Vessel Used By God, Sandra shows you God truly does have a plan and purpose for your life! And she will teach you the steps necessary to go through your trial and how you can come out victoriously!

Sandra shares personal lessons and fascinating stories as well as Biblical insights on how to endure as you wait on God.

Learn how:

* To walk victoriously through the refining fires in your life right now
* How God's power works in your life
* To wait on God and gather the valuable lessons He wants you to learn.
* To stand on the Word of God and get results!

Becoming A Vessel God Can Use

"When you think about the kind of "vessel" you are, do words like "chipped," "cracked," "broken," and "dirty" come to mind?" - These are the words which drew my eye on the back cover of Author Donna Partow's book "Becoming a Vessel God Can Use."

When I started to read the back of this book, as I always do when praying for the Holy Spirit to lead me to my next book He would have me to read, I was a little surprised. I am a perfectionist and a Type A personality however, believe it or not I often feel as if God cannot use me because I feel cracked or chipped, as Donna so perfectly put it.

A dear friend gave this book to me at a time in my life where Satan had convinced me I could not be used of God. I am so proud to say this book has become one of my all time favorites. I have read it several times through and highly recommend it to every child of God.

The book (like most of Donna's I have read) are laid out for you to work through daily as a devotional; but with so much more to it. This book is a ten week journey helping you to realize God accomplishes extraordinary things through ordinary people like you and I. (However I will be honest and tell you I cheated and read more than one chapter some days because I loved it so much).

Donna starts day one with a bang, asking the question "Do I have to be perfect?" I found this to be an awesome question because before I came to accept Christ as my Lord and Savior I thought I had to clean up my life for this Holy God to come into it. Then as a child of God I felt I had to be perfect in order for God to "really" use me.

Through the question and answer format Donna has laid out, as well as the scripture memorization, you are able to truly allow the Holy Spirit to show you that you ARE a vessel He can use. Donna says " Let go of your plans to do great things for God and cling to the truth that God is able to work through an imperfect vessel like you." How freeing that line was for me! She goes on to say " ...accepting the purpose for which God created you, even if it's not the life you envisioned for yourself. It requires being emptied of yourself and allowing God to cleanse you and fill you anew."

The ten week journey will take you through; understanding how and why God uses imperfect vessels, learning to depend on God alone and walking in "God Confidence" (love that), getting to know God, accepting the unique way God made you, emptying yourself and making room for what God wants to do in and through your life, allowing God to cleanse you, being filled and refilled with the Living Water of God's Holy Spirit, waiting to hear God's voice and the ways He speaks to us, pouring out your life in ministry as God directs, and finally experiencing the joy of being a vessel God can use!

"What does it take to be a woman who makes a difference in the world?" This is a question Donna asks so sincerely. This question drew me in because my prayer is for God to allow me to be used of Him to make a difference in this world. Donna says so perfectly "God will give you specific instructions for your life, if you will only listen and obey."

Dateable: Are You? Are They?

Today I am doing the blog a little differently. I am the one who usually writes the book review however, I came across a 16 year old young lady who had done a review on the book Dateable: Are you? Are they? by Justin Lookadoo and Hayley DiMarco, and I thought what better way to get a point of view for the readers then from someone who is right there; ready to date, or about to be ready. Once you finish reading the insight on this book from this wonderful young woman check out Justin Lookadoo's Dateable Quiz.

Rachel Burton according to her blog profile is a Jesus Freak, a musician, a bookworm, and is in love with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! I read her review on her mother's blog, and with their permission I am sharing it with you here.

"A lot of what you read in these pages you’re not going to like,” Justin says. But it’s not about you.”

That is in the preface (or “the thing before the thing,” as the author puts it) for
Dateable written by Justin Lookadoo (and a few insights from Hayley DiMarco), a book teaching both male and female teens how to date healthfully and in the way that God designed. However, Dateable is not written in a way to make it sound like an adult preaching to teens. Justin, formerly an award-winning probation officer, makes you feel like you’re just talking to another teenage guy. Yes, he is blunt. Yes, he speaks the truth with no mercy. Yes, he tells you what you don’t want to hear. But in the end he wraps it up with love, he’s funny, and he knows exactly what teens (both male and female) think during the dating process. Plus, he doodles all over the pages - another thing to make him seem just like your average teen guy. While I have not yet started dating, Dateable has already helped me a lot by teaching me what the opposite sex really thinks during certain situations (being a guy himself, Justin speaks from experience), and even why I, as a girl, think some of the things I do. It taught me situations to be wary of, how to have fun on dates without the temptation, and most importantly to realize that God is above all things, even your boyfriend or girlfriend. He is the One that should be getting more of your passion and love, not put on the back burner for your partner. In short, all teens will be able to relate to this book, whether they are dating or not. Justin’s points are head-on and any teen, no matter who he or she is, will be able to learn from this book. As a teen myself, I highly recommend it."

Questions and Anwers on Spiritual Gifts By Howard Carter

As I picked up this worn and tattered book I wondered about the way it was laid out. It is a question and answer format from Hamsptead Bible School in London, England where they had a stenographer record all the days happenings. You are reading the questions asked in the lecture hall that day and the answers given. With that said I was completely surprised at how well the content was covered. As a child of God I know the Bible tells us of our promises given to us by God. So as I read the questions asked and the replies, I was greatly enlighten to truths spoken about the Word, and the misleadings that I myself had had.

Though ideally I like to interview the author of the books reviewed here; that would be impossible since this book was written by Howard Carter years ago. Mr Carter during the First World War began a 30 year study on the gifts of the Holy Spirit as presented to us in 1 Corinthians 12. He was perplexed that there was so little teaching available on the subject which the apostle Paul instructed us in1 Corinthians 12:1 "Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant."

Mr Carter pioneered a quest for revelation of this supernatural subject and was regarded as an authority on the gifts of the Spirit. I would love to be able to have a conversation with him today, because we as children of God still do not walk in all that has already been given to us according to the Word of God.

Here is an excerpt from the introduction of the book "Questions & Answers on Spiritual Gifts"

"The importance of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit to the essential functions of the Church of Jesus Christ cannot be over-estimated. Without them, the Church lacks the spiritual equipment outlined in the first Epistle to the Corinthians Chapter 12, which is so necessary for an aggressive conflict with the powers of darkness.... The Lord Jesus said; "He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also." John 14:12. He also promised: " Ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you." Acts 1:8 . But if we ignore the Gifts of the Holy Spirit we despise the heritage which is granted to us in Christ, and forget what the apostle Paul exhorted in 1 Corinthians 12, verse 1."

I give this book 4 stars and consider it a must read by all Christians.

Welcome

Welcome to the Christian Book Reviews Blog. Let me introduce myself for all of you who have not met me. My name is Sandra Hersey and I am a Minister, Christian Life Coach for Women, Author, and Speaker.

I have been writing an inspirational blog for the past 2 1/2 years and felt as if I should have an additional blog to write reviews on Christian books I have read. My hope is to be able to have some interviews as well with the authors of the books I write about.

Being I am a Minister and Christian Life Coach for Women I am forever referring books to people to read, this way people can read about books and see what the author has to say about them.

If you are a Christian author and would like me to read your book and write about it, please contact me, I would love to hear from you!

This blog will not have the daily information posted to it as my daily blog does because I will be reading the books I write about. However, please feel free to visit my daily blog for daily inspiration.
